RESPUESTA ENDOSCÓPICA A LA TERAPIA CON ARGÓN PLASMA EN RECTITIS ACTÍNICA CRÓNICA

The actinic rectitis takes an important place following radiotherapy (5 %-15 %). Radiosensitivity of the mucosa causes ulcers and bleeding due to an obliterated endarteritis. Argon Plasma coagulation has shown great effectiveness. METHODS: We included 23 patients with a history of radiation therapy, rectal bleeding and suspicion of actinic rectitis. The clinical scale of rectal bleeding was measured using Zinicola´s scale for endoscopic findings. We did apply Argon Plasma in a different quantity of sessions for each patient. RESULTS: In 17 patient’s witch (73.9 %) were male, all of the patients tested for rectal bleeding, the average starting time for rectorragia was 17 months. The main finding is telangiectasias in all patients. 14 patients had active bleeding at the first endoscopy (60.8 %). Mild is the most frequent presentation (47.82 %). A total of 49 sessions we were made. There is a progressive decrease in the number and extent of telangiectasia’s and progressive fibrosis by replacement, as well as reduction of the active bleeding in subsequent sessions. CONCLUSIONS: The response to the Argon plasma is individual, to higher score on a Zinicola´s scale corresponds greater number of sessions. Argon Plasma coagulation is a safe and effective method for the treatment of the chronic actinic rectitis.
