The study seeks to initiate a newly developed Personal and Parents’ Parenting Style Scale (PaPPS) to explore the mechanisms of intergenerational transmission between parental parenting style and personal parenting style in Asia. A total of 294 Chinese participants (67.4 ± 5.9 years old; 76% women; 7.0 ± 3.5 years of formal schooling) completed the PaPPS and a sociodemograhphic questionnaire. Findings suggest the distinct intergenerational transmission of parenting in an Asian population of immigrants and children of immigrants from China living in Singapore, although there remained gender difference. However, parental satisfaction and years of parenting did not seem to mediate the transmission; there may perhaps be key cultural differences that require further exploration between both Asian and Western cultures.
