Basin morphometric characteristics have a vital role in the hydrological procedures as they essentially standardize the hydrological response of a catchment. Therefore, analysis of morphometric aspects becomes even more significant while studying the nature of run off as a response to intense rainfall, especially in case of a flashflood-prone watershed, like Arkasa. The Arkasa is a right bank tributary of Dwarkeshwar river system in West Bengal, which is the lifeline of about 11 villages and about 2000 people. The current study gives a holistic assessment of the hydrologic responses of different morphometric parameters of this watershed. The analysis of remote sensing data in GIS environment gives a spatial view of the potentially flasflood-prone sub-watersheds of Arkasa, delineated based on the composite scores of the weighted normalized values of the morphometric indices. Out of the 11 villages, 6 (containing more than 800 people) were found potentially dangerous for any flood events.
