This article tracks the genesis of the field of social studies on sexual diversity. It recovers the influence from feminist theory and pioneering constructivist and post-structuralist approaches to sexuality. It also reviews a series of ethnographic and qualitative research that contributed to enriching and complexing this field at the intersection of gender and sexual-family diversity, with a special glance on these studies in Argentina. Finally, the article considers ‘an alarm in the feminist agenda' following surrogacy pregnancy practices and their attempts at regulation in Argentina. The latter raised a controversy between the critical assessments made by feminists and the demands of the LGBT movement for regulating TRHA. Kinship studies —both theoretical and ethnographic ones—can help to illuminate these debates.
