The article presents a brief review on the main contributions of marxist theory to social classes analysis in agriculture, recovering the way in wich classes approaches have been used to study the Argentine pampas throughout the different historical stages. Four stages with different standpoints and emphasis are identified. Finally, elements for the analytical update of this perspective are proposed, taking into account the transformations that have occurred in agrarian capitalism social relations of production in recent decades.
