Thanks to the convenience of technological developments, an infinite number of images are produced every second in our age.The objective factual nature of the photograph, which is technically the trace of the light reflected from the objects on the image systems, has led to its acceptance as a document or consumer product for many years. In time, photography, which forms its own aesthetic and cultural accumulation, was used by the artists as a tool for making art, and the changing forms of perception led to the search for new expressions, and new discourses began to be introduced within the framework of the movements. One of the art movements used in photography as an art discipline is minimalism; that mean just simplicity.
In this study, firstly, the concept of minimalism is defined. Based on the philosophical foundations of minimalist approach, the meaning of the concept in art disciplines and its usage in art disciplines are mentioned. Then, in the light of the reflections created in different art disciplines, how the minimalism movement is positioned in the art discipline of photography is examined. Since it is an approach that deals with the form rather than the content of the work, the formal elements of the photographs taken with the minimalist approach are handled one by one and minimalism in the art and art discipline is analyzed formally.
