The professional graduation in agronomy must be supported in a systemic view, the complexity that characterizes life, and the understanding of historical and dialectical development of human societies. This paper aims to present the characteristics and contributions of a special discipline offered by the Agrarian Sciences Centre of Federal University of São Carlos. Participants worked from text-based dialogues on environmental education and the development of further research and/or extension. Four educational activities were promoted: a study on the convergent and divergent thinking of students of a rural school; a study on the perceptions of users regarding food waste at the university restaurant, as well as actions to raise awareness on the issue of hunger; the development of agro-ecological and orchard in a multigrade classroom rural school; and the enchantment of the local culture in a rural settlement of Araras (SP). The course provided an individual and collective learning through the exchange of knowledge in their moments of theoretical dialogue and actions developed in the group. The course achieved its goal of providing a meaningful and contextualized learning, allowing concluding on their academic and social relevance.
