In this paper which aims to reveal the perceptions of tourism academics about congresses through metaphors used for the concept
of “congress”, phenomenonology with qualitative research pattern was used. in this context, the collected data is subjected to content analysis. Attitudeally it is divided into three categories; positive, negative and both/ambiguous and purposely three categories;
socialiation, accessing/sharing the scientific knowledge and entertainment/rest. Then, these categories have been cross-linked.
In the study, it has been seen that a significant number of academics perceive the congresses as a means of accessing/sharing scientific knowledge and socialization. In addition, it has been concluded that the general attitudes of the participants regarding the congresses are positive.
