In the Indian traditional system of medicine, Tridax procumbens L. is used for treating kidney stone disorders.
Ethanolic extract of T. procumbens was evaluated against 0.75% v/v ethylene glycol and 2% w/v ammonium chloride
induced calcium oxalate urolithiasis and hyperoxaluria induced oxidative stress in male albino rats. Treatment with
the extract was able to reduce caluculogenesis induced urinary excretion and renal deposition of calcium and oxalate
and resultant lipid peroxidation, indicating its antiurolithiatic and antioxidant effects. Results of the present study
provide evidence for the claimed use of T. procumbens in the treatment of renal stone disease.
