Based on districtwise Census data, the present study attempts to explain spatial patterns of male-female differentials in
literacy in the state of Haryana. The male-female differentials in literacy in Haryana are largely due to social structure and
male dominated society. It mainly addresses the following aspects: (i) Changes in the pattern of male -female literacy, 1971-
