The Journal is multidisciplinary and the main topics are:
• ways to creation of functional materials with preset properties (superconductors, ferri- and piezo-electrics, synthetic metals, semiconductors, luminescent materials, scintillators, electro-optical, magneto-optical, photorefractive materials, laser media, etc., its synthesis and design);
• structure, phase transformations and properties of single crystals, ceramics, composites, amorphous solids, liquid crystals, polymers, thin films, low-dimensional systems (wiskers, superlattices, heterostructures, surface layers), nanostrucrures (quantum dots and wires, nanocrystals, and their ensembles) as applied to materials science problems;
• modern methods of functional materials modeling, research and characterization;
• problems and methods of functional materials use in modern technologies (technical electronics, micro- and nanoscale electronics, optoelectronics, laser and piezo-engineering, integral and fiber optics, information visualization and recording systems, sensors, tribology, etc.);
